In a bid to enhance traveller’s comfort the Indian Railways has introduces an innovation to the design of the side lower berth to enhance the comfort of passengers.

The reason being that there’s an uneven gap when the seats are felled and because of this the passengers find it uneasy while sleeping. Thus, to make the train journey experience better for passengers, the national transporter has introduced new design innovations to side lower berths.

In a video shared by Twitter user Vaidy Voice, a railway official can be seen explaining that a lot of passengers feel discomfort while sleeping on a side-lower berth because of the uneven gap when the seats were felled.

To mitigate that the railways have introduced a cushioned side-board which may be placed on the felled berth. This not only provides a continuous and smooth surface for passengers to sleep on but it also provides more area than the legacy berths.

The innovation appears to have been added within the AC Two Tier LHB coach as evident by the reading lamp – a feature of that class.

It should be noted that passengers traveling in AC Two Tier have over the years complained against an equivalent fare being charged for normal and side berths considering the latter don’t provide any extra space or comfort despite the higher costs.
