The Govt of India on Wednesday lifts the Covid-19 travel restrictions on United Kingdom nationals that it had imposed earlier this month.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a fresh order said the earlier guidelines on international arrival dated 17th February 2021, shall be applicable for those arriving in India from the UK.

India Lifts Travel Restrictions For UK Nationals

“Revised guidelines for UK nationals arriving in India issued on October 1, 2021, stand withdrawn, and earlier guidelines on international arrival dated February 17, 2021, shall be applicable for those arriving in India from the UK.”

Ministry of Health said in a order today.

India Imposed Reciprocal Measure

India on October 1, in reciprocal measure, decided to impose 10-day mandatory quarantine on arrival for all UK flyers among other restrictions. Under the guidelines, all UK nationals will also have to undertake the pre-departure COVID-19 RT-PRC test within 72 hours before travel. They will also have to undertake a COVID-19 RT-PCR test on arrival at the airport and an RT-PCR test on Day 8 after arrival.

India took this decision after the UK recognized the Covishield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India but retained the 10-day quarantine period for fully vaccinated travelers from India.

However, on October 7, UK decided to scrap quarantine for all Indian travelers fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other vaccine recognized by the UK government. Thus now, India has also relaxed the stringent curbs it had imposed.

Guidelines For UK Nationals

As per the latest order of the Ministry of Health, travel guidelines that were announced on 17th February 2021, will now be applicable for all travelers arriving from the United Kingdom.
