Hong Kong, from Friday onwards, has extended its mandatory quarantine for almost all international travelers for three weeks. “The measure is necessary to prevent the spread of new coronavirus variants”, said the officials.

According to the government, the experts have suggested that the virus’ incubation period could be longer than 14 days in some people. As a result, passengers will now be quarantined for three weeks in the designated hotels.

However, travelers from mainland China, Macau, and Taiwan will be exempt from the tighter restrictions.

The government also announced a ban on people who have stayed in South Africa in the past 21 days from entering Hong Kong.
