As per the report of India Today, the Govt of India is planning to remove the minimum and maximum airfare caps on domestic flights by the end of this month.
As per the sources, all the capacity restrictions have been removed now govt is looking likely expected to remove the fare cap on domestic flight tickets and this is going to happen as soon as before the winter schedule kicks in with usually starts from last Sunday of Oct. (31st Oct 2021).
At present domestic flights of duration between 90-120, 120-150, 150-180 and 180-210 minutes have lower caps of ₹ ₹5,300, ₹6,700, ₹8,300, and ₹9,800, respectively.
No Restrictions On Domestic Flight Capacity
Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India has removed the restrictions on domestic flight capacity, Domestic Airlines in India are now allowed to operate at 100% of their pre-Covid capacity from Oct 18 onwards.
Earlier, domestic airlines in India are allowed to operate at 85 percent of their pre-Covid capacity.
Highest Domestic Air Traffic
It must be noted that the domestic air traffic in India continues to increase and counts reach near the pre-Covid levels, on 17th Oct India has seen the highest number of domestic passengers (3,27,923 Passengers), post coronavirus pandemic.
“Owing to the constructive policies of the government, domestic air traffic has seen the highest level, post the onset of the pandemic! The civil aviation sector in India thrives amidst unprecedented challenges, whilst we make every effort to return to normalcy as early as possible.”
Impact of Fare Caps Removal
The festive session in India has started and demand for air travel has increased in the meantime the govt has allowed domestic airlines to operate at 100% of pre-Covid capacity.
After the removal of airfare caps, the minimum lower fares on many domestic sectors may drop and we can also witness some festive offers by the airlines as well.
On the other side, as the higher fare cap will also be removed, there will be a surge in last minutes tickets prices on popular routes.
