Goa Police Arrested 42 Tourists For Gambling In A Hotel

Goa police arrested 42 tourists after raiding a gambling den in the beach village of Calangute near Panaji, an official said on Sunday.

After a raid at a hotel near Calangute Beach in North Goa district around midnight on Saturday, Rs. 10 lakh cash, 57 cell phones, and other materials were seized, a police spokesman said.

The defendant, all tourists from Gujarat, Maharashtra and New Delhi, was caught gambling on the fifth floor of the hotel, he said.

All of the defendants were booked under the terms of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, he said.

The official is thinking of writing a letter to the state tourism department to suspend the hotel’s licence.
