The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday said that the Chennai airport’s new integrated terminal will be ready by the end of 2022.
The new terminal will be built on 2,18,000 sqm land and will work as one large integrated terminal for international and domestic flights, the AAI informed.
The new terminal will increase the current capacity from 21 million passengers per year to 35 million passengers per year, the AAI said in a press release.
In terms of the number of passengers handled every year, the Chennai airport is India’s 4th busiest airport.
There will also be a multi-level car parking with a capacity of 3,000 cars at a time. The current parking facility is able to handle 1,200 cars at time. The AAI works under the Civil Aviation Ministry. It owns and manages more than 100 airports across the country.
