Canada Will Increase Capacity to Reduce Visa Processing Times in Four Cities

welcome news for travellers who have been frustrated by long wait times for Canada visas, Sean Fraser, Canada’s immigration minister, announced on Wednesday that Canada intends to expedite visa processing in four cities which also include two Indian cities Delhi and Chandigarh.

According to Fraser, Canada’s recently announced Indo-Pacific region would help bring more students and immigrants to the country from India and 2 other countries including Pakistan and the Philippines.

Canada to Reduce Visa Processing Times

Fraser added that the new announcement will bring new funding to help reduce visa application processing times even further by adding capacity in:

  • Islamabad
  • New Delhi
  • Chandigarh
  • Manila

Fraser further added that in order to increase the capacity for processing visa applications in New Delhi, Chandigarh, and other locations, Canada will invest $74.6 million over the course of five years.

Most new immigrants to Canada today are students and immigrants from India. Over 2,25,000 Indian students are presently studying in Canada.

The immigration minister said the new funding would strengthen Canada’s International Student Programme.

“By giving them (international students) access to permanent residence and job opportunities that could lead to staying in Canada, these investments will attract students, who frequently become the highly skilled workers Canada needs to meet the challenges of our economy today and tomorrow.”

said Sean Fraser

“The Indo-Pacific region is vital for Canada’s immigration and will continue to be in the future. Today’s announcement brings significant new funding to help boost Canada’s visa application processing capacity at home and abroad.”

“As we look to record growth in admissions in the years ahead, this funding will help promote greater diversity among those looking to visit, study, work or live in Canada,” he added.
