What are the new status-tracking services?

The new status trackers will apply to Express Entry candidates in the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It will also apply to candidates in Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

If you applied on paper, you can link your paper application to your online account. This will allow you to see any updates to your application status.

The Canadian government will send you an email if you need to make changes to your account. If you do not complete the requested updates as soon as possible, your application may be delayed.

Canada’s immigration backlog

Canada has been facing a high backlog of immigration applications, with over 2.1 million applicants in inventory as of January 31, 2023. To address this issue, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been taking steps to improve the speed at which applications are processed.

The department aims to have a backlog of less than 50% across all lines of business by the end of March 2023.

Canada’s immigration goals

In 2022, Canada welcomed a historic number of newcomers, with 431,645 new permanent residents. The country unveiled a goal of seeing 500,000 people arrive each year by 2025 as it seeks to address a critical labour shortage.

The new status-tracking services will help ensure that the immigration process is smoother and more efficient for newcomers.
