Biman Suspends Flights On 7 Routes Including Delhi And Kolkata, Till 24 October

The national carrier of Bangladesh, Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Sunday in a notice on its website said that it has suspended all international flights on seven routes till October 24.

Flights to Kolkata, Delhi, Kuwait, Kathmandu, Medina, Manchester, and Bangkok will remain suspended till October 24.

Earlier on August 25, Biman Bangladesh Airlines decided to suspend flights to Kolkata, Delhi, Kuwait, and Manchester till September 30.

An official of Biman Bangladesh Airlines said that Biman took the decision to increase the suspension because of passenger shortage and Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the destinations mentioned above.

If Biman were to operate flights on these routes, it might face losses, he added.

On March 21, the Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) pack up all domestic and international flights in an effort to contain the spread of Covid-19 within the country.

On June 1, CAAB permitted the resumption of operations of all domestic flights as long as they maintained social distancing and followed health guidelines. International flights resumed on June 16 on similar terms.

However, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines is now operating scheduled flights to many destinations viz. London, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Riyadh, and Jeddah — out of 16 international destinations, said Biman CEO Mokabbir Hossain.

In addition, Biman will also operate flights to Dammam and Singapore from October 1 and to Muscat from October 2.

Besides, Biman is currently operating special and cargo flights on various routes.
