Bengaluru International Airport Launches 24/7 Covid-19 Testing Facility

Bengaluru govt. has launched a 24*7-hour operational Covid-19 test facility at Kempegowda International Airport till January 2, 2021.

As part of its effort to make passenger journeys convenient and hassle-free, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) – operator of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB/ BLR Airport) – has launched a round-the-clock COVID-19 testing facility at the Airport,” the BIAL posted on its Twitter handle and official website.

The facility is being available as Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced night curfew in Karnataka from today till January 2. The curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 6 am.

The rapid test will be done using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method, and will be done in just less-than-15-minutes!!

The RT-PCR test center is located near the arrivals area of ​​the terminal and is managed and operated by Auriga Research Private Limited of Bengaluru.

There will be a sampling kiosk in the terminal and a special, state-of-the-art laboratory outside the terminal.

Until the test results are received, those tested would be required to wait in a specially demarcated area. Reports would be shared directly with those tested through digital platforms. As per Government requirements, the results of all samples will be registered on the ICMR website.

International passengers who cannot get a test before boarding the flight can take advantage of this option upon arrival at the KIA.

With the express test method for the globally recognized Abbott ID NOW, the RT-PCR test result would be available in less than 15 minutes, while the regular RT-PCR test result would take up to six hours.

Please note that the tested people would have to wait in a specially demarcated area until the test results were received.

Reports would be shared directly with those tested across digital platforms.

In accordance with regulatory requirements, the results of all samples are registered on the ICMR website.

Passengers who test positive will be processed; BIAL has established detailed standard operating procedures to manage people who test COVID-19 positive at the BLR Airport, in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, as of Tuesday, 1,141 more people across the state fell ill with the infection, while another 1,136 recovered from it. As of December 22, up to 13,993 cases are active, with the total rising to over 9.11 lakh in the state since March 8.
