Air India to Enhance International Flight Experience with Wi-Fi and New Aircraft

Air India is launching Wi-Fi on international flights and making significant upgrades to its fleet and services. The airline will introduce new A350 aircraft, retrofit legacy planes, and enhance in-flight amenities to elevate passenger experience.

Air India is set to roll out Wi-Fi connectivity on its international flights starting in November, as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance passenger experience. This initiative marks a series of improvements that travelers can expect in the coming months.

Major Upgrades on the Horizon

The airline is embarking on a transformation journey that includes:

  • New Aircraft: Introduction of the Airbus A350 on international routes.
  • Retrofit of Legacy Planes: Upgrading older aircraft to meet modern standards.
  • Enhanced Soft Products: Revamping in-flight offerings such as tableware, bedding, and amenity kits.

Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, emphasized that these changes aim to improve comfort for both domestic and international travelers.

“The launch of the A350 is a game-changer,” he stated, reflecting a renewed commitment to service quality.

Fleet Expansion and Staffing

Since the Tata Group took control in January 2022, Air India has been focused on revitalizing its operations. Key measures include:

Air India currently operates six A350s, with an additional 34 expected to join the fleet by 2026. Plans are underway for four-class cabins, featuring first class, business, premium economy, and economy, pending regulatory approval.

Upgrading In-Flight Experience

To tackle in-flight entertainment issues, Air India has introduced a temporary wireless solution on legacy wide-body aircraft. Passengers can enjoy entertainment through portable devices while the aircraft undergo retrofitting.

Wi-Fi Connectivity Update

Dogra confirmed that efforts to implement in-flight Wi-Fi are well underway, with the service anticipated to launch shortly after receiving necessary approvals. “We expect to offer Wi-Fi on our A350s within a month of receiving the go-ahead,” he added.

Enhanced Pre-Boarding Experience

The airline is also investing in the passenger journey before takeoff. A new international lounge is under construction at Delhi’s Terminal 3, with plans to establish additional lounges in Dubai and London. Exclusive domestic lounges in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad are also on the agenda.

Conclusion

With these strategic improvements, Air India aims to transform its image and elevate the flying experience for all passengers. As the airline continues its multi-phase transformation, travelers can look forward to a more comfortable and connected journey in the skies.
