India’s flagship carrier, Air India, has rolled out a series of temporary reductions to its narrowbody network, impacting both domestic and short-haul international flights. The changes, effective until at least 15 July 2025, include the suspension of three routes and frequency reductions on 19 others.

The airline assures that these cuts represent less than 5% of its overall narrowbody operations, aiming to maintain network stability and minimise last-minute disruptions for passengers.

Why the Cuts? Operational Stability at the Core

While the cuts are minimal compared to Air India’s overall operations, nearly 600 daily flights, they aim to streamline services and enhance reliability across the network. The airline emphasised that these decisions were made voluntarily and are part of a broader effort to stabilise services.

Routes Suspended Until 15 July 2025

Three routes have been temporarily suspended. Each route previously had seven weekly flights:

Temporary Cuts to Boeing 787 & 777 Flights

Apart from the latest cuts to narrowbody routes, starting from 21 June to 15 July 2025, Air India is reducing Boeing 787 and 777 services due to enhanced safety checks and Middle East airspace curbs. Key routes to North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia are affected. Rebooking and refunds will be offered.

What Should Affected Passengers Do?

Air India is actively contacting travellers impacted by these changes. Passengers can expect options such as:

  • Complimentary rescheduling to alternative flights.
  • Full refunds if preferred.
  • Re-accommodation on different routes, where possible.

For the latest updates, customers are encouraged to check Air India’s website, mobile app, or contact the customer support centre.

What This Means for Your Travel Plans

While the changes may cause slight inconvenience, Air India is maintaining a vast majority of its operations. With nearly 600 daily flights still running, connectivity across India and short-haul international destinations remains largely unaffected.

If you’re booked on one of the impacted routes, it’s best to review your itinerary as soon as possible and explore rescheduling options if needed.

A Strategic Pause, Not a Shutdown

These service adjustments reflect a short-term strategy aimed at enhancing Air India’s operational performance. With services expected to resume by mid-July, this move could lead to better reliability and fewer last-minute cancellations in the future.
