Air India Brings First Covid-19 Vaccine Shipment To Delhi

As per a report, the national air carrier Air India brought the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine to Delhi from Pune around 9pm on Thursday, January 7.

The government has roped in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and commercial airlines for the delivery of vaccines in the country.

As per The Economic Times, The Air India flight (AI 850) delivered the vaccine in Delhi around 9 PM tomorrow, citing government sources.

Two vaccines received restricted emergency use approval on January 3. First, Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield manufactured by Serum Institute of India and Second, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.

However, the number of vaccines delivered isn’t clear brought on the first flight.

Air India could also be used to transport vaccines across the country in the first phase, said a report.

In the first phase, the government has planned to vaccinate 1 Crore health care worker, 2 Crore Frontline and Essential employees, and 27 Crore elderly people, most of whom are over 50, with comorbidities.

  • A total of 1,000 vaccination centres will be designed at various locations in Delhi, about 600 of which will be set up in the first phase.
  • There will be multiple booths at every vaccination centre. Each to take a maximum of 100 people. There will also be placed a nodal officer at each vaccination centre.

The Delhi Minister of Health said the government was fully prepared to receive, store and deliver COVID-19 vaccines to 51 people in the lakh priority category in the first phase.

  • The COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network or Co-WIN app will be used to manage the vaccination drive.
  • Everything will be fed to the database in real-time.
  • After vaccination, each person will be kept under observation to check any adverse events.

So Delhi is all set for the inoculation drive and will conduct its second dry run today. The first dry-run was held on January 2.
