In a groundbreaking move, Air India has become the first Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic routes. Starting January 1, 2025, passengers on select Air India flights can stay connected in the skies, marking a new era in Indian aviation.
The service will initially be available on Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. To celebrate the launch, Air India is offering this feature at no additional cost during an introductory period.
Enhancing the Passenger Experience
The new in-flight Wi-Fi aims to elevate the travel experience, catering to both leisure and business travellers. Whether browsing the internet, checking social media, or catching up on work, passengers can now stay productive and entertained throughout their journey.
Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, emphasized the significance of connectivity in modern travel. “For some, it’s about real-time sharing, while for others, it’s about greater productivity. We’re confident our guests will enjoy the new Air India experience,” he said.
How the Wi-Fi Service Works
Passengers can easily connect to Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets running on iOS or Android. Once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet, travellers can:
- Enable Wi-Fi on their device.
- Select the ‘Air India Wi-Fi’ network.
- Enter their PNR number and last name on the airline’s portal to access the service.
Additionally, multiple devices can be connected simultaneously, ensuring flexibility for passengers.
It is worth noting here that the in-flight Wi-Fi connections depend on factors such as satellite connectivity, overall bandwidth usage, routes, and government restrictions.
Seamless Transition from International to Domestic Routes
Air India’s domestic Wi-Fi rollout follows the success of its international in-flight connectivity. The airline already offers Wi-Fi on long-haul flights to destinations like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore.
For domestic travellers, the Wi-Fi service will remain complimentary during the introductory phase, with plans to expand to more aircraft across the airline’s fleet.
Driving Innovation in Indian Aviation
This initiative showcases Air India’s commitment to enhancing customer satisfaction and embracing digital transformation. As the first airline in India to launch Wi-Fi on domestic routes, Air India is setting a benchmark for passenger convenience and technological advancement in aviation.
What This Means for Indian Travellers
With Air India leading the way, travellers can expect more airlines to adopt similar services in the near future. The move aligns with the growing global trend of seamless connectivity during flights, catering to the needs of today’s tech-savvy passengers.
