Air India CEO & MD Campbell Wilson, said;

As the airline reinvents itself under the Vihaan.AI transformation programme, increasing frequency and improving connectivity from major Indian cities to more international destinations is a major focus.

“This sizeable frequency increase to the US and the UK, as well as the addition of new city pairs and improved aircraft cabin interiors, comes just 10 months after Air India’s acquisition by the Tata Group. It is a clear signal of our intent, and an early step towards a much bigger aspiration,” he said.

Air India to Lease 30 New Aircraft

Recently, Air India announced that it will gradually introduce 30 new aircraft, including 5 wide-body Boeing planes, beginning in December this year.

“These new aircraft, which will enter service from late 2022, will increase the airline’s fleet by over 25 per cent. Not counting the 10 long-grounded narrow-body and 6 wide-body aircraft that have been returned to service in recent months, these new aircraft mark the first major fleet expansion since Air India’s acquisition by the Tata Group earlier this year”.

Furthermore, in addition to leasing new aircraft, the airline has also been working to restore existing narrow-body and wide-body aircraft to the operating fleet.
