Days after announcing the resumption of some domestic commercial passenger flights from May 25, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday during a Facebook Live session hinted that if the situation is under control then international flights may start before August.

“We will try to start a good percentage of international passenger flights before August,” he said.

“I can’t put a date on it (restarting international flights). But if somebody says can it be done by August or September, my response is why not earlier depending on what is the situation,” he added.

“It is very important to resume flight operations because we have to actually learn to live with corona. Flying according to me is the safest mode of travel in any case. People shouldn’t be worried rather be careful,” he added.

Puri also said “I don’t understand the need for quarantine of passengers who have been given green status on Aarogya Setu app,”

The guidelines from some states say that domestic passengers will have to undergo institutional quarantine from 7-14 days which will be followed by home quarantine.

“Arogya Setu app is something I would suggest to everyone as it is an excellent contact-tracing app. There is nothing comparable to this app,”
