The Indian Railways has allowed the e-catering services to resume in the trains with RailRestro. You will now again get your food on your seat while traveling on train.

The delivery of food on trains is permitted at selected stations across the country.

The decision came after Manish Chandra, CEO and Founder of RailRestro, wrote to the Ministry of Railways and IRCTC officials to allow e-catering services on the trains.

Moreover, all the service providers must follow instructions from local government and government agencies.

RailRestro is an authorized e-catering wing of IRCTC. It has now received confirmation from the Ministry of Railways and is all set to serve the food from the last week of January 2021. “All the restaurant partners have been asked to ensure hygienic and contactless deliveries,” said Kriti Raj, Public Relations Manager at RailRestro.

The company has set strict guidelines:

  • There will be thermal scanning of the restaurant’s staff.
  • The Kitchens will be sanitized daily at regular intervals.
  • The Cooks will only get permission to prepare food only if the body temperature is below 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

The guidelines for delivery staff were also mentioned:

  • The staffs are allowed to collect orders only after hand washing,
  • ‘Aarogya Setu’ app’s use is mandatory by all the delivery staff.
  • Delivery must be contactless.
  • Every single staff is suggested to use face masks.
  • the disinfection of the delivery bags after each Delivery.

Why the service was stopped?

The Railways had earlier stopped the e-catering services in the trains in the view of coronavirus outbreak in the country. Now, the food delivery will be permitted during the rail journey, “depending upon the feasibility, availability of staff and local restrictions.”

However, till now, RailRestro has served more than 50 lakh meals on the trains. It has more than 2000 affiliated restaurants across the country.

The resumption of e-catering will undoubtedly be a great relief for Indian Railways passengers, as they can easily order their groceries en route and have it delivered to their seats without fear of contamination.
